High stomach acid Diagnosis

High stomach has doubted, put you for a proper diagnosis. Because it can easily confuse with hypoacidity, they are extremely opposite conditions.

Hyperacidity diagnosis

Some commonly used diagnosis tests for high stomach acid are:

  • Burp home test,
  • Stomach-acid test or Gastric acid secretion test,
  • Heidelberg gastric analysis test, gastro test,

Burp home test for high stomach acid diagnosis

Mix a teaspoon of baking soda into four to eight ounces of water. Drink it in the morning at an empty stomach before putting anything in your mouth and note down when you start burping. If you are producing excess acid, then sodium-bi-carbonate (baking soda) reacts immediately with acid producing CO2 gas causing burp with 2 minutes of ingestion. For healthy stomach acid level, you should burp or belch similar to the drinking carbonated beverages within two to three minutes. If you have no burp, burp little or late after five minutes, then you are having low stomach acid.

Stomach-acid test or Gastric acid secretion test

This test is to measure the amount of acidity levels in your stomach. This test should perform without eating or drinking anything for last four to six hours. It has performed by injecting a hormone gastrin, and by inserting a tube into your stomach through your nose or mouth to collect the stomach fluid. Normally, the collected stomach fluid should be within 20 to 100 ml and the pH should be in the range of 1.5 to 3.5. If your test results fall more than this normal range, then you have diagnosed as high stomach acid.

Heidelberg Gastric Analysis test

The Heidelberg Gastric Analysis test is the most trusted and expensive test. It usually costs around $350 and unfortunately; most insurance plans will not cover it. To undergo this test you need to swallow a capsule containing a pH meter and radio transmitter. It has followed by drinking a solution of water containing bicarbonate of soda, which should stimulate the stomach acid release. The pH meter transmits the stomach acid value, which has received by the receiver placed near your stomach. A gastro-gram is a graph plot using your stomach pH value. After the test, it (capsule) has passed through the intestinal tract and excreted.

You should fast for at least 8 to 12 hours, and should not take acid suppressant for last for days.
